mitte der neunziger setzte sich terry lee brown jr. alias norman feller an eine symbiose aus techno und house, zwei damals sich eher gegeneinander ausspielende genres. heute ist tech-house dank deutscher labels wie pokerflat, perlon oder plastic city allgegenwärtig und hat selbst dem minimal-hype der letzten jahre standgehalten. mit letzterem label ist terry lee brown jr. eng verbunden. ein großer teil seiner langen diskografie wurde dort veröffentlicht. drei alben, unzählige dj-gigs, unzählige remixe, eine eigene dj-mix-cd-serie und immer wieder auch ausflüge in trance-, downbeat- oder breakbeat-gefilde – es ist eine erfolggeschichte. sein viertes album „karambolage“ ist das erste seit sechs jahren. gewohnt sicher und feingliedrig geht mr. brown ans werk. da sitzt jeder beat, da werden saubere melodien eingewoben und die balance zwischen musikalität und funktionalität ausgelotet. zum album erschien ebenfalls eine limitierte 7“ mit einem „karambolage-edit“, einem stück, das die fixpunkte des albums in einem ganzen verschmilzt. doch keine bange, es handelt sich nicht um einen liebloses medley. die edit-version ist ein ganzer track, der den status quo von terry lee brown jr. beleuchtet.

one of house musics true originators, todd terry was first discovered by pioneering new york house imprint fourth floor records. now the label has collected four of his earliest and most essential productions on to one 12inch vinyl. the a-side houses a pair of tracks created under his black riot alias in 1988, both featuring his trademark raw, jacking drums. the unmistakable rave stabs on a day in the life were to reappear on countless hardcore records, testament to the tracks influence, whilst the cut-and-paste sample patchwork of warlock defines the house sound of that era. meanwhile, the b-side features two tracks as masters at work, a moniker that todd would later pass on to his friends little louie vega and kenny dope gonzalez. both alright alright and dum dum cry, originally released in 1987, exhibit terrys musical roots, combining hip-hop breakbeats, powerful electro-funk and playful freestyle melodies in his inimitable style.

after four years and 20 releases from la vie en rose, terence :terry: delivers his second solo ep on his own label. the paris maestro, who is currently based in madrid, has been hard at work in the studio to produce this brand new three-tracker entitled ‘coney island’ and all three tracks work as a perfect representation of his deep, sultry and hypnotic sound.

this record was written with the intention of conveying classic aspects of house music. track names such as “paradise garage”, “the warehouse” and “zanzibar club” come from monumental clubs that helped shape the history of house. it s true roots in chicago (the warehouse), to new york city (paradise garage) and new jersey (zanzibar club). this 12 features an heavy low end bass line surrounded by a fuzzy acid, brisk and grubby house beat, lush chords deliberately sitting alongside with crispy clear high end vocals. it s about respecting a legacy, the foundation.

when chateau flight was approached to participate to this live project of covers of terry riley, together with le cabaret contemporain, they immediatly said yes. it was the occasion to play great music from a majeur influence of them, and also to play it live with some great musicians. the live experience went so great that they decided to go in the mythical vogue studio (around paris), to record it. the idea was to have a full live take, no edits, to capture the magic of the improvisation. cabaret contemporain is 2 prepared double basses, 1 drummer, 1 guitar player, 1 prepared piano. chateau flight(i:cube and gilb-r) providing the electronics sounds and the mixdown here is the result.
